# Find the listed phone numbers of local businesses in a city

Name a kind of business and a city, such as plumbers in Phoenix. local.places returns the Google Maps listings with each one's name, category, phone number, website, rating and review count. The number is the listing's main business line, which is what a call list or a local outreach sheet needs.

## How to do it

1. **Pick a category and a city.** Use the words people search on Maps, and write the place as City,State,Country.
2. **Call local.places.** Each place comes back with name, phone, website, rating, reviews_count and place_id.
3. **Clean the list.** Drop listings without a phone, and dedupe on the number, since one company can hold several listings.
4. **Go further when needed.** reviews.search reads a listing's reviews by place_id; contact.phone looks for a named person's direct number.

## Worth knowing

- **Main lines only.** The number is the one on the business listing. It is not the direct line or mobile of an owner or employee.
- **One page per search.** This run asked for 10 and the first route returned its page of 20 places at the one search price.
- **Addresses can be blank.** Service area businesses hide their street address on Maps, so many rows here had no address.

No. It is the number shown on the listing. Call or check it before a large campaign.

### Can I get a person's direct number?
