# Search Reddit from an agent and get posts it can filter and rank

Reddit's own search is built for a person scrolling. social.search gives an agent the same posts as data: title, start of the body, subreddit, date, upvotes and comment count, across every public subreddit in one call. The agent can then drop the ads, sort by replies and keep what matters.

## The call

[`social.search`](https://www.routergrowth.com/catalog/social.search): Public posts matching a keyword on X, LinkedIn, Reddit, YouTube, TikTok, Instagram or Facebook: brand mentions, category conversations, competitor chatter.

Price on this network: $0.002432 per post, $0.002 minimum a call. The exact quote is shown before every run.

## What a real run returned

Run on 2026-10-26: 8 records in 16.5 s for $0.02224. Personal fields are masked. Eight posts for an invoicing query: one self-hosted thread with 85 replies, three posts from a vendor's own subreddit, and one off topic 2021 story.

| text | community | posted | replies |
|---|---|---|---|
| Invoicerr (V1.0.1) - Open Source Invoices and Quotes app for freelancers | r/selfhosted | 2025-07-02 | 85 |

## How to do it

1. **Write the query.** Use the phrase a buyer would type. The search covers every public subreddit.
2. **Call social.search.** platform reddit, the query and a limit. Each post comes with its community and engagement.
3. **Filter as data.** Drop vendor subreddits, keep posts with replies, and sort by date or by comment count.
4. **Read the threads.** Run social.comments on the posts worth reading to see what people actually said.

## Ask it like this

- Search Reddit for invoicing apps for freelancers, drop anything posted by a vendor, and show the threads with the most replies. (`social.search`)
- Find Reddit posts about switching CRMs, then read the comments on the two busiest threads. (`social.search`, `social.comments`)

## Worth knowing

- **Relevance is loose.** One of eight results here was an old story that only shared a word with the query. Let the agent filter on text and community.
- **Vendors post too.** Three results came from an app's own subreddit. Check the community before quoting a post as user opinion.
- **Public posts, read only.** Private communities are not searched, and nothing is posted, voted or messaged.

## Questions

### How is this different from searching on reddit.com?

The result is data, not a page: every post has its community, date and engagement as fields, so an agent can sort and filter it.

### Can I limit it to one subreddit?

Add subreddit:name to the query, or list one subreddit's recent posts with social.posts.

### Does it include comments?

No. It returns posts. Pass a post URL to social.comments for the discussion.

### Is this Reddit's API?

No. It is a RouterGrowth capability over public Reddit data, independent of Reddit.
