# Get the articles Google News lists for a query, in one API call

news.search asks Google News for a query in a location and returns the articles it lists as JSON: title, source, snippet, URL, publication time and image. RouterGrowth is independent and is not Google's API. The results come through DataForSEO's Google News endpoint, and every run names the provider that answered.

## How to do it

1. **Set query and location.** Pass the query and a country such as United Kingdom; the default is the United States.
2. **Call news.search.** One POST to /v1/run. The articles are in result.articles.
3. **Check the provider.** The run's provider field says who answered. dataforseo means the list is from Google News.
4. **Store and refresh.** Keep the URLs and rerun the query on a schedule to catch new articles.

## Ask it like this

- What does Google News in the UK list this month for semiconductor export controls? Group the articles by type of publisher. (`news.search`)
- Compare the Google News results for our brand in the United States, Germany and France, then scrape the newest article from each. (`news.search`, `web.scrape`)

## Worth knowing

- **Independent of Google.** RouterGrowth is not Google and this is not a Google API. The query goes to a data provider that reads Google News.
- **The fallback is not Google News.** If that provider fails, a web news search answers instead. The provider field on the run tells you which one served it.
- **Relevance, not only recency.** The list follows Google News ranking, so an article from months ago can sit next to one from this week.
