# Scrape a YouTube channel's uploads with views, likes and comments

Name a YouTube channel. RouterGrowth reads its uploads and returns rows with the link, upload date, views, likes, comment count and description of each video. No browser automation, no API quota and nothing to fix when YouTube changes its pages: the agent gets the list and compares, ranks or reports.

## The call

[`social.posts`](https://www.routergrowth.com/catalog/social.posts): Recent public posts for a social handle.

Price on this network: $0.00525 per post, $0.002 minimum a call. The exact quote is shown before every run.

## What a real run returned

Run on 2026-10-19: 6 records in 17.3 s for $0.0315. Personal fields are masked. Six videos read from Shopify's channel, from June to August 2026, with views between about 1,900 and 6,100.

## How to do it

1. **Connect RouterGrowth once.** Add the MCP server to Claude, ChatGPT, Claude Code, Codex or Cursor. A new workspace starts with $1 of credit, enough to run this example many times.
2. **Name the channel.** Give the @handle or the channel URL and how many videos to read.
3. **Get the uploads.** social.posts returns each video with link, date, views, likes, comment count and description.
4. **Compare channels.** Ask the agent to put two or three brand channels side by side by views per video.

## Ask it like this

- Scrape Shopify's last 20 YouTube uploads and tell me which topics get the most views. (`social.posts`)
- Compare the YouTube channels of three ecommerce platforms by average views over their last 15 videos. (`social.posts`)
- Get the subscriber count of these channels, then their latest uploads. (`social.profile`, `social.posts`)

## Connect

MCP server: `https://api.routergrowth.com/mcp`

```bash
claude mcp add --transport http routergrowth https://api.routergrowth.com/mcp
```

```bash
npm install -g routergrowth && routergrowth setup
routergrowth run -c social.posts -i '{"platform": "youtube", "handle": "@Shopify", "limit": 6}'
```

```bash
curl -X POST https://api.routergrowth.com/v1/run \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $ROUTERGROWTH_API_KEY" \
  -d '{"capability": "social.posts", "input": {"platform": "youtube", "handle": "@Shopify", "limit": 6}}'
```

## Worth knowing

- **Order is the channel's.** Videos come back as the channel lists them; sort on created_at when the order matters.
- **Description, not transcript.** The text field is the video description. Spoken content is not returned.
- **Billed per video.** The quote is shown before the run and the charge covers the videos returned.

## Questions

### Do I need a YouTube API key to scrape a channel?

No. Your RouterGrowth key is enough.

### Can it read any channel?

Any public channel, by @handle or URL.

### Does it return subscriber counts?

Not in this call. social.profile on the channel returns followers.

### Can I get comments for each video?

Yes. Pass each video link to social.comments.
