X (Twitter) Ghostwriter Cost: What Founders Pay in 2026

By Guillaume Rufenacht, RouterGrowth · published aug 2026

X ghostwriting pricing is opaque because most providers gate it behind a call. The published numbers that do exist tier cleanly: roughly $1,000–2,500 a month for solo writers, $2,900–5,000 for established founder specialists, and $4,000–8,000+ for agencies. Here's the evidence, and what each tier should actually include.

The 2026 tiers

tiermonthlywhat it includes
Solo / junior writer$1,000–2,500Daily posts or a weekly thread; little strategy, no engagement work.
Founder specialist$2,900–5,000Positioning, 15+ hand-written posts, replies handled, one senior writer.
Agency$4,000–8,000+Team coverage, heavier volume, strategy layer, sometimes multi-platform.

The sources: Coinbound's agency roundup puts experienced X ghostwriting agencies at "$4,000–$8,000 per month" and lists named providers between $2,200 and $3,000. Pete Codes publishes his pricing openly: $2,900/month for 16 hand-written posts plus 40 replies, or $5,000 combined with LinkedIn. Ship 30 for 30 reports the freelance spread at "$1,000 all the way up to $10,000+ per month." For an hourly anchor, the Editorial Freelancers Association's 2026 rate survey puts business and marketing ghostwriting at $87.50–125/hour, so a $2,500 retainer buys roughly 20–28 senior hours a month. Do that math on any quote you receive.

What changes as the price goes up

Volume is the least of it. What you're actually buying at each step: at the bottom, words; someone turns your bullet points into passable posts. In the middle, judgment; a writer who knows which of your raw material is a post, which is a thread, and which is nothing, and who handles the replies that decide whether a post becomes a conversation. At the top, a system: positioning, a target-account map, engagement coverage, reporting, and enough bench that your account doesn't go quiet when one person is on holiday. If a $5,000 quote can't explain what happens besides writing, it's a $1,500 service with margin.

Why X pricing differs from LinkedIn

Two mechanics change the work. Frequency: X rewards presence, so real programs run 15–20+ posts a month against LinkedIn's 12–16. That means more extraction, more drafting, more approvals (our LinkedIn cost guide maps that market). And replies: on X the conversation under the post is the product. X open-sourced its current recommendation algorithm in January 2026. It ranks by predicted engagement across ~15 interaction types, and the community annotation of the 2023 release documented replies weighted 27 versus 0.5 for a like, with conversations the author engages in worth far more still. Weights evolve; the direction hasn't. A ghostwriter who drafts posts but doesn't work the replies is leaving most of the distribution unclaimed, which is why reply handling is the first thing to check in any X quote.

Questions that expose a bad X ghostwriter

Ask for three live client accounts and read the replies, not the posts; that's where voice fakes collapse. Ask how many posts come from a call with you versus from a content calendar built off your website. Ask whether they use automation or engagement groups: X's authenticity policy prohibits inauthentic engagement and unauthorized automation, and accounts get throttled for it. And ask what they report monthly; follower count alone means they're not measuring the thing you're paying for. RouterGrowth's X Growth service is the founder-specialist tier at $2,000/month: positioning, 15–20 ghostwritten posts, a daily engagement window on a curated target list, and a DM playbook. Launch pricing, honestly labeled.

Frequently asked questions

Can I just pay per thread or per post?

Some freelancers sell that way, but per-post pricing buys words without distribution: no reply work, no engagement, no system. It suits testing a writer's voice, not growing an account.

Is $2,000–3,000/month enough for real results on X?

Yes, if it includes engagement work, not just writing. The published market puts founder-specialist programs at $2,900–5,000; anything in that range that skips replies and target-account engagement is underscoped, whatever it costs.

Do X ghostwriters write in my voice or theirs?

The good ones write in yours, from a weekly call that captures what you shipped, what broke and what you think. If a provider doesn't ask for recurring time with you, you'll sound like their other clients.
