AI SEO agent: run a full SEO audit from Claude, ChatGPT or Codex
Ask your agent to find the opportunity. It pulls live keywords, rankings, competitors, backlinks and page issues, then gives you the plan, not another dashboard.
$ Set up https://www.routergrowth.com/SKILL.md, then audit routergrowth.com: find our best SEO opportunities, show who owns the SERP, identify the competitor gap, and tell me the first five pages to create or fix.

An AI SEO agent is not a new product to buy. It is the agent you already use (Claude, ChatGPT, Codex, Cursor) with one thing added: live search data it can call while it works. Without that, a model answers SEO questions from memory, which means stale volumes, invented rankings and a plan nobody can check. With it, the same prompt returns keywords with this month's volume, the SERP as it stands today, the domains actually competing with you and the pages that need fixing, each with its source attached.
SEO software sells access: a seat, a dashboard, monthly credits. An agent needs something simpler, which is fresh search data it can call inside the work, with a known price before every request. This guide shows the seven calls behind one audit prompt, how to connect them, and where the approach stops.
What is an AI SEO agent?
A general-purpose agent with SEO tools. The agent brings the reasoning: scoping the market, deciding which keyword deserves a closer look, turning evidence into a prioritized list. The tools bring the facts.
| Call | What the agent learns |
|---|---|
| seo.domain_overview | ranking keywords, estimated traffic and its value for a domain |
| seo.ranked_keywords | every keyword the domain ranks for, with position and volume |
| seo.competitors | the domains sharing its Google results |
| seo.keywords | volume, CPC, competition and related ideas for a seed |
| seo.serp | the live Google or Bing results, with SERP features and AI Overview presence |
| seo.backlinks | backlinks and referring domains for a target |
| seo.page_audit | one URL audited: title, headings, links, timing and the failing checks |
The data comes from DataForSEO, with Apify as the fallback for SERPs. You do not need an account with either: RouterGrowth holds the provider connection, normalizes the output into one schema and settles each call against one prepaid balance.
How do you give Claude, ChatGPT or Codex live SEO data?
Two ways, and both take a minute.
- The agent skill. Point a coding agent at
https://www.routergrowth.com/SKILL.md. It installs once and teaches the agent to discover a capability, read its schema and exact price, then run it. - The MCP server. Add
api.routergrowth.com/mcpas a connector in Claude or any MCP client. The whole catalog is exposed through three tools (discover, inspect, run), so the SEO calls sit next to enrichment, social and ads data on the same connection. The steps are in the MCP quickstart.
Then ask in plain English:
Audit acme.com. Find our best SEO opportunities, show who owns the SERP,
identify the competitor gap, and tell me the first five pages to create or fix.
What does one SEO audit prompt actually run?
Seven calls, in an order the agent picks from what each one returns.
| Step | Call | Outcome |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | seo.domain_overview | organic footprint mapped |
| 2 | seo.ranked_keywords | current rankings and traffic estimates |
| 3 | seo.competitors | the organic competitors, which are rarely the sales competitors |
| 4 | seo.keywords | volume, CPC and competition around the best seed |
| 5 | seo.serp | who holds the highest-value keyword today |
| 6 | seo.backlinks | the authority gap against the leader |
| 7 | seo.page_audit | issues on the page most worth fixing |
What comes back is a market map, a keyword gap, the live SERP for the keyword that matters and five prioritized actions. Every claim in it traces to a call in the run log, so a number that looks wrong can be checked instead of trusted.
The agent sees a quote before each call and the whole audit at default limits costs cents. The current price of every call is in the table at the end of this page, read from the live catalog.
How is this different from an SEO suite subscription?
A typical SEO suite seat runs around $249 a month, about $2,988 a year, whether you run one audit or a thousand. (That figure is illustrative; vendors, limits and plans vary.) The data then has to be exported, cleaned and moved into the workflow where the decision gets made.
| SEO suite | AI SEO agent | |
|---|---|---|
| You pay for | access, monthly | each call, when it runs |
| The interface | a dashboard you click through | a question you ask |
| The output | charts to interpret | a plan with the evidence attached |
| Scope | SEO only | SEO next to AI answers, social, ads and company data |
The last row matters more than it looks. Search demand is one signal. An agent holding the same key can check whether ChatGPT cites you with an AI visibility audit, read what competitors are promoting, and pull hiring or funding signals for the accounts behind the keywords, without a second contract.
Where does an AI SEO agent stop?
It is a research and audit tool, not a replacement for judgment or for publishing.
- It does not track rankings on its own. Each call is a snapshot. To watch a keyword set over time, run the same calls on a schedule and keep the rows.
- It estimates traffic. Traffic and traffic value are modelled from rankings and click curves, like every third-party SEO tool. Your own Search Console data is the ground truth for your own site.
- It recommends, you decide. The agent will happily propose fifty pages. The useful prompt asks for five and for the reason each one is winnable.
Two deeper guides cover the halves of this audit on their own: the keyword research API guide for finding terms worth ranking for, and competitor SEO analysis for taking one rival domain apart.
What does each call cost?#
Prices below are the starting price per successful call. /v1/inspect returns the exact figure before the run and reserves it against your balance; failures and unbilled no-matches release the hold in full.
| Capability | What it returns | From | Providers |
|---|---|---|---|
| seo.domain_overview | Organic and paid footprint of a domain: ranking keywords, estimated traffic and its value, top-3 and top-10 counts. | $0.016 | |
| seo.ranked_keywords | The keywords a domain ranks for on Google, with position, volume, CPC and estimated traffic per keyword. | $0.016 | |
| seo.competitors | Domains competing for the same Google keywords, with shared-keyword counts, average position and their organic footprint. | $0.016 | |
| seo.keywords | Search volume and keyword ideas for a seed keyword. | $0.016 | |
| seo.serp | Live Google or Bing results for a keyword and location, with SERP features and AI Overview presence. | $0.003 | |
| seo.backlinks | Backlinks and referring domains for a target domain. | $0.062 | |
| seo.page_audit | Instant on-page audit of one URL: status, title, description, headings, links, timing, on-page score and the failing checks. | $0.001 | |
One prepaid balance covers every row. Capabilities marked coming soon are listed but not yet executable.
FAQ#
Is this live SEO data?
Yes. The SEO capabilities call live providers when your agent runs them. SERP results, rankings, keyword metrics, backlinks and page audits are returned from the current provider response, not a demo dataset.
Do I need a DataForSEO, Semrush or Ahrefs account?
No. RouterGrowth manages the provider connection, normalizes the output and settles each call against your RouterGrowth balance. Your agent uses one RouterGrowth key.
How do I use Claude for SEO with real keyword and backlink data?
Connect the RouterGrowth MCP server or point Claude Code at the SKILL.md. Either way Claude gets seo.serp, seo.keywords, seo.ranked_keywords, seo.backlinks, seo.competitors and seo.page_audit as tools, with the price quoted before each call and one balance behind them.
Can I choose the country and language?
Yes. Location-aware SEO calls accept a country, a city and country, or a provider location code, plus a language. Google and Bing are available for live SERP checks.
Can my agent run a larger audit?
Yes. It can inspect more keywords, competitors, backlinks and pages in the same workflow. Use inspect first to see the exact quote, set a spend guard, and increase limits only where deeper evidence is useful.
Is there an MCP server for SEO data and B2B contact enrichment?
Yes, the same one. The MCP server at api.routergrowth.com/mcp exposes the whole catalog through discover, inspect and run: the SEO capabilities on this page next to contact.find, contact.verify, company.enrich and people.search for enrichment, so one connection covers both jobs.
